SEEC Members Introduce Clean Electricity and Transmission Acceleration Act
Statement from EDF SVP for Political Affairs Elizabeth Gore
(Washington, D.C. — Dec. 13, 2023) Working alongside the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC), U.S. Reps. Sean Casten (D-IL) and Mike Levin (D-CA) today introduced the Clean Electricity and Transmission Acceleration (CETA) Act, which would address some of the most urgent issues in advancing the clean energy transition. This bill will encourage the development of new transmission lines to carry renewable power where it’s needed while protecting the rights of communities to provide input on where lines are built and to benefit from their construction.
“We must increase the capacity of our energy grid to electrify our entire economy, adopt cleaner energy sources and unlock the full potential of President Biden’s clean energy investments,” said Elizabeth Gore, Environmental Defense Fund’s senior vice president for political affairs. “The CETA Act will help new clean energy projects come online as quickly as possible by incentivizing the development of high-capacity, long-distance transmission lines. This work must be done by engaging early with communities to ensure meaningful public involvement, as well as tangible benefits for those communities, which are principles embraced by this bill. That will allow new transmission lines to come online quicker and with stronger community support.”
With more than 3 million members, Environmental Defense Fund creates transformational solutions to the most serious environmental problems. To do so, EDF links science, economics, law, and innovative private-sector partnerships to turn solutions into action. edf.org
