California Senate and Assembly Both Pass Ambitious Climate Change and Clean Energy Legislation
EDF Statement from Lauren Faber, West Coast Political Director
(SACRAMENTO – June 3, 2015) Today, both the California state Senate and Assembly passed packages of bills which further advance the state’s leadership on the issues of climate change and clean energy and lay the groundwork for a robust clean energy economy for all Californians. The bills tackle an unprecedented range of issues related to fighting climate change and advancing clean energy. These issues include expanding renewable energy and clean transportation, setting long term climate pollution reduction targets, and maximizing advanced energy jobs.
“The legislature’s action today to pass a bold set of climate and clean energy goals is an exciting milestone in California’s fight against climate change and for a clean, sustainable, inclusive economy,” said Lauren Faber, West Coast Political Director for Environmental Defense Fund. “The broad support for this aggressive agenda, including healthcare providers, multinational corporations, environmental and environmental justice groups, and labor, makes it clear the legislature has concocted a winning formula for California’s future. These bills go a long way toward cementing ambitious, long-term strategies to combat climate change and sustain a clean energy economy which is already yielding tremendous benefits to the state. California’s people, economy, and environment are the real winners and the state is also helping lead the way for climate action around the world. We look forward to working with the legislature and governor to keep up the momentum.”
